I ordered the seals a while ago, threw them in the "install" box and never looked at them again until yesterday when I went to install them. My order says " 2X HD Inner Axle Seal, FJ80", yet, I must have the wrong set...
OEM or variant...

I've never installed them but can't imagine a way, am I stupid or did someone at Marlin make an :whoops:...

You may have gotten a 40 series seal from Marlin, I have a pair of 40/60 series HD seals and they are smaller than the ones on my troopie, which take 80 series seals.

I have a new set of 80 series seals on the way, I'll let you know if I have the same problem.

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD

I have to call them anyway to get the hub dial spring/detent ball for the hubs I'm putting on. I tried to source them locally but couldnt find them.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy or anything...

You are not crazy. If you want i can take a pic of both sizes next to each other. Got them both here on the shelf.

Thanks Darin, no need for a pic. I called them, read them the number stamped on the seal and they went :whoops:

I said that it must have been an omen since I needed 2 sets of the hub dial detent ball/spring sets, send them along with the replacements and a call tag to return these.

No problem they say, just have to charge you for shipping now that you are ordering the other parts...

You have to pay for shipping to correct your error an now I have to pay shipping to throw 4 items into the package that couldn't weigh 1 gram total? Yup, sorry to have to charge you...

Yep, for future reference for people the early model are 90311-33805mc and the later model are 90310-35010mc.

Jerry,

In case you want to get started on the axle, I have a couple of the 80 series Marlin seals that you can use...

Thanks for the offer Clint. I had a set of OEM seals that I threw in. I'll use the Marlin seals on the take-off axles when they arrive.

I'm writing a very nicely compiled letter to be included with the returned seals how happy I was to pay for shipping the 2 detent balls and 2 springs instead of being thrown into the package sending the correct seals. But, when you're the only game in town, sometimes the consumer has to take what is offered...:crybaby:
