My brother is getting rid of this FJ40 that didn't pass California smog. He's shipping it to me to keep or sell. What's the market like for 1978 FJ40? I am assuming it's not that great considering the economy.

It's so bad you might as well give it to me to save time...:grinpimp:

SROR sliders with custom kick-outs. :)

It should be here in a couple of weeks. I think he paid $6000 for it a few years ago. It's in decent condition with very little rust, if any. This is the first year that it didn't pass smog. I think it just needs minor adjustments. I drove it once. Ran pretty well.

It'll never pass and any place you take it too especially in Mesa ;) will admonish and scold you that these old trucks are being phased out anyway. You should probably just have it dropped off at our ranch in Green River, Utah.

Hey, I don't have to deal with that smog stuff and I'm alot closer than Green River..;)

Seriosly though; pics / specs would do wonders on the price range...

These guys are kidding. A solid 40 is worth a mint. Your brother was a stool. That truck is priceless
I don't understand it. I grew up in a 40. It didn't hold a candle to my locked 80. That truck will climb trees! My 80 is the best off-road rig ever devised! It will do far more than I will ever do! I get scared well before my truck ever does! My truck has more balls than I have!
I have done plenty of bodywork on my rig. It has been rolled over. I have little fear of more. But I have a real understanding that my truck is more capable than I am. It is a Land Cruiser!

He and his wife lives in San Francisco and are expecting their first child. Like me, he always wanted one of these, but unlike me, he doesn't work on his own vehicles too much. Plus, there aren't too many places to wheel in the city. I replaced the starter for him when I visited him a couple of years ago. Although I didn't look at it too closely, I don't recall seeing any major problems with it. I'm looking forward to getting it down here.
