I do not know a whole lot about these. I have done some reseach on these and they seem to be pretty good bikes. I am looking to buy one off of craigslist. The bike seems to be in great shape, however it is 11 years old. Can anyone give me some advice on these? Also, does the attached link seem to be a good deal. $450 seems a little high to me for an 11 year old bike.

I have a Hawk Hill that is about ten years old and love it. It is a very durable, versatile bike. Price seems a little steep but dont know for sure. If you have a REI or sun and ski near you they are c learing out their 2011 models for just a little more than that.

bump, come on guys help me out here. The sale will be made Saturday.

Always take a used bike to a reputable shop to have it gone over before you buy to make sure that it's not a POS waiting to blow up and ruin your cycling experience.

what do you suggest on $. and i will take it to a shop. In the pics, it looks like a couple of teeth on the gears are worn or broken off. Thanks for any suggestions appreciated.

Keep in mind the fork and shock suspension seals are 11 yrs old. I wouldn't be surprised if they start leaking. I've seen it before, bike gets "stored" in garage and then comes out of retirement and the old seals start to leak once they get use again.

$450 is too much. Do you need full suspension? $450 might get you a decent and much newer used hardtail.

i really would like a full suspension. I had a stump jumper back in the day adn loved it. That was stolen years ago though and i am not looking to put that much back into a bike, as i am just getting back into it and am way out of shape. Any suggestions a a full suspens i could get for 4-500 or less sued. If this bike checks out, it seems to be pretty good. When built it was a solid entry level full suspension. The more advice i can get the better. Thanks

Like Toad said, probably a couple hundred tops. If you have to tune it up, buy sprockets etc you are easily looking at another 150 to 200 bux. That added to the original asking 450 puts you in the range of a new bike.

If it were me I would maybe consider a different bike... Marin has kind of taken the Schwinn path.. They do have high end durable bikes but most are "Box Store" quality... It really depends what you want out of a bike... Everyone will have their own opinions but if it were me I would spend the $450 or so and buy a new Felt or Trek hardtail.... Just my 2cents

thanks for the advice. i am willing to spend more, but just didnt know if this was a great deal. Apparently it is not unless i can get it for around 200. Which i suspected. I guess i was just thoping it was a too good to be true. I may start looking at a new entry level full suspention, or a really nice hard tail. But then again, that is a new locker, snorkel, etc

When you get your bike you should come down to Quantico--We have some awesome trails...

a soon as i find something worth buying, i will come on down. are the trails on base?

Yes, they are on base.

Parker,

Have you decided on a bike yet? Hard Tail full suspension? I road a HT for many years and then 3 years a go went the FS way. I miss the way a HT handles but the FS sure is nice and plush. Cant remember how old you are but me pushing 40 it is nice the way a FS treats my back and joints oh and my taint :)

I turned 28 today as a matter of fact, but have had some back problems in the last couple years, and fractured my femur twice, so i would love the plushiness a full suspension at the right price. I have found a couple of nice bikes, but they are all small. I am 6'2'', is there any way i can get away with this bike in this size?

NEW HARO SONIX S full suspension bike rock shox hydra | eBay

I found one in almost new condition for $400.

While you could probably manage on most sizes I highly suggest you get the correct size. Back in the late 80's and early 90's I rode bikes that were to small for me. When I actually rode a bike that was the correct size it made a huge improvement in all aspects of riding.

Get the right size.

Have you looked into any of the Chinese frames? Brand new carbon FS stuff for oh-my-goodness cheap.
