We're planning a wheeling trip for mid March but having trouble finding challenging, fun trails that aren't closed. We were hoping for strawberry/mirror lake and possibly even Dusy but they are all closed until June. We're looking to do a 4-5 day trip and remote locations are a plus. suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

You might check out the Lost Coast trail between Usal State Beach and Shelter Cove then drive on up to the little town of O'Brian OR. and do the McGrew trail if you're speed wheelin'. With only 4-5 days from down south the lost coast would be my choice if you don't want to worry about snow storms in March. There is good camping on either end of the trail but the road goes through the Sinkyone Wilderness and you don't see much for ocean views as all the old logging roads have been blocked off and you have to walk down them to get to the ocean. It's all country that most people have never seen. Go to http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/arcata/kingrange/sinkyone_wilderness.html to read all about it. You should be sure to pack a chainsaw that time of year.

Thanks Don...I'll be sure to look into it!
