Hi -
I'm looking for a good online source of free and detailed .jpg maps, especially for California. Calibrated and not, but GPS coordinates are a must. Anybody has a clue? Tnx.

Do a Google for "California GIS clearinghouse"

Most states have a website for professional GIS users that will have many different types and scales of maps, in different file formats...Most for free.

Also check the USGS website. They have the topo maps, called DRGs (Digital Raster Graphics), which can pretty much be handled with just about any photo editor or viewer that will handle .jpgs.

This is the best. reply. ever. Thanks!

there are a bunch of maps available from the Forest Service, of course.

Or you can get USAPhotomaps, free program, free maps from the big server (name forgotten). Only thing I find ennerving is that when I switch from topos to sat pics, they "move". My own tracks match perfectly with pics so the topos are off by a bit for some reason...
