Can someone post pictures of a worn output shaft versus a new output shaft on an H55f?

Here is mine and I'm trying to decide how worn it is or if I need to get a McNamara type gear. There is an indentation on the shaft on the splines where the input gear rides. Has this been caused by wear or are the new shafts machined like this?

I thought I would start a new thread, apologies to others if you saw and posted on my first one about wiring.

Thanks.

The best thing to do would be to put the transfer gear onto the shaft and check for movement, there shouldn't be any. It could be the gear that is worn too. Especially if it came from an auto.

The PTO gear tends not to wear so you could slide that down by the bearing to check the wear of the splines. If that PTO gear is tight but the transfer gear is sloppy all you need is a new transfer gear.

Pictures of a new shaft are not going to tell you much. But looking at that picture I don't see anything unusual about the wear, you can even see milling marks on the sides of the splines where the transfer gear sits when installed. The sides of the splines are the important part. That narrow band in the center is where the spacer sits.

Yeah, there wasn't a lot of play in the gear. But there is a significant drop that you can feel as you are running your hand down the shaft..where the input gear sits. You can see it in the picture.

The gear itself did not look worn.
