OK FOLKS. I'm sure most of you know the issues I've been having with my header in stall on my 81 FJ40. I originally purchased the SOR 2 piece header, which turned out to be problematic.
The install with the SOR header was a disaster. The header interfered with my shackle reversal which posed a number of problems (see previous post). After some deliberation, I decided to scrap the idea of installing the SOR 2 peice, and ordered the MAF 6-1 Header. (which I should have done in the first place)
Anyhow, the MAF header fit beautifully. The intake manifold mated perfectly to the header. The header sits above the shackles, so I was able to put the shackle pins back in the correct configuration. (grease fittings facing out, bolts facing in) and everything lines up beutifully.
Overall, the MAF 6-1 header is the way to go if you have a shackle reversal. Also, they just redesigned the 6-1 so the area that mates to the motor is not all one piece now, but rather two pieces. This allows for a bit of flex, and a better install. I also went with a stock Toyota gasket.
Install almost done!
