When I swapped my head unit, I saw that my factory system had 2 antenna wires, a standard to the powered antenna and a micro to the amplified glass antenna in the PS rear window (no that's not a defogged). To utilize them both and maximize reception you need the following:

Micro adapter http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-Mda-B-Micro-Antenna-Adapter/dp/B00009UHRI?tag=ihco-20
Y-adapter http://www.amazon.com/METRA-40-UV43-Motorola-Antenna-Y-adapter/dp/B0002EXF10/?tag=ihco-20

I see a noticeable improvement and can usually get HD radio reception with the mast antenna retracted.

Thanks for the info. I have not had the head unit out in awhile, just to clarify, I need both of those items that you offered links too? I think I understand the Y but what about that other part?

Thanks

The other part adapts the small micro connector to a regular connector so you can plug it into the Y connector.

I'm ordering both of these parts. Thanks for the info!

I installed the Y connector that and the micro adaptor today for my Kenwood DNX Nav. Having both antennas makes a huge difference. The best thing about this setup is I can lower the main antenna and still get Garmin traffic info from the rear fm antenna!

haste makes waste

I ordered both these parts without even realizing I didn't need them... don't ask why :bang: if you need them let me know and I'll ship them to you, free, paying it forward
