Hey Scott - Wish I could report more but not much progress as of late. I am disassembling most of the truck and considering a frame off. Need to sell a good 2H/H41/TC and another 2H that may need a head before getting a replacement motor. The V8 appears to be the best solution for the way I want to use the truck...maybe I'll be able to find a Toyota V8 to keep it all Toyota.

Thanks.

local yard has full tundra motors for less than $1800 with low mileage with all accessories and electronics.

They get them in often, had 5 when I was there last week.

Just sayin.

:)

I did not need to see that post... the lv is on the road leave the engine alone.....
how hard would that be to mount up to a H55 or a manual transmission in general?

The V6 tundras had a stick option, not sure on the V8 ones. Bjowett on the board is your best bet for all things tundra. Tundrasolutions.com also.

I have a 2000 tundra with a V8, nicest truck I have ever owned.

There is a guy over on Pirate4x4 that is putting a 3.4l Tacoma motor in an FJ45.

I would think that it wouldn't have the torque of a 2F

On a side note, from what Wally was saying the 4.7 will bolt up to the auto whcih is in the FZJ80. If you want to go auto too that would be a great swap because it would also give you the offset t-case.

I think the 3.4 V6 is 220 lb-ft BUT its shape and the fact it doesn't peak until much later RPMs might make it a little less off-highway but should be a sufficient highway mover.

I was thinking about the 1GR-FE and 6spd. The 1GR-FE is surprisingly overstroked though I think it has torque peak at over 4000RPMs :(

Just listenin! Sounds good, but don't want an automatic and will have to see if there are any conversion options. Hmmm.

Foggy - you don't have time for motor considerations...you have too much body work to do :D.

...and if it bolts to the 80 series auto than it's not that far of a leap to say the 80 series 5-sp from Oz will bolt up too. I'm sure there is a manual trans flywheel for the V8 in Toyota's inventory somewhere you can use to get it all together (or some machinist dude might be able to make you a custom part if needed). Slee has swapped a couple Toyota V8's into earlier trucks and might be able to provide the tech support to make it happen.

Go for it Randy! Just make sure you buy the factory service manuals for the donor vehicle too so you can sort through the EFI wiring harness to make it go. Getting the motor bolted in is the easy part; making the EFI system talk to yer old skool vehicle is the real challenge.

Good thinking and I like this option, provided there is a sane and proven path to making it work. Could be a great engine in the 47. I should check in with Christo as I'm sure he's been there/done that. FSM!!!
