I’ve decided to list my 1984 FJ60 again. I listed it last year when I was loving in Portland, Oregon, but I removed the listing because I couldn’t resolve an oil leak. It turns out I messed up badly when I was replacing the timing gear cover. I ended up having the whole engine replaced by Tim at Land Cruiser Specialties in Oregon City, Oregon. The replacement engine (1983) came from someone off Ih8mud.
I’m now in Madison, Wisconsin. The vehicle has been in Madison for about a year. It’s been driven in the snow a handful of times. The undercarriage has been washed regularly since I brought it to Wisconsin. The rear crossmember is rusted out pretty badly, but the previous owner welded some thick steel to the frame to address it (see pictures). There is a rust spot on the inside of the passenger door, and a little bubbling on the passenger rear fender.
It needs an alignment and the brakes are pretty stiff. I’m not sure what’s causing the stiff brakes, but it might need a new vacuum booster. However, the brakes work. It also needs a paint job.
I cleaned and resealed the fuel tank with POR-15 within the previous few months. I cleared out the headlines, replaced the soft lines, filter, and pump (it runs so much better now). The carb was rebuilt by Mark at Mark’s off road. This was done a couple years ago, but it hasn’t been driven much since then. It could probably use a little tuning, but it drives fine.
I rebuilt the knuckles about 3 years ago when I bought it. I have also done the following working: replaced the master and slave clutch cylinders, new brake pads all around, new clutch, flywheel, and throw out bearing, new oil pan gasket, new rear main seal, new bvsv sensors, new thermostat, all new vacuum hoses, new front calipers, new wheel cylinders for the back wheels, new brake master cylinder, new window channels, new radiator, new radiator fan, new fan clutch, new water pump, new belts, and I rebuilt the front knuckles and locking hubs, and a new battery. There were some other items that were replaced during the engine swap, but I can’t find my invoice for that.
Price: $9,500 obo
