Taking the new to us M416 trailer on a road trip in a few weeks (up to Ouray for the 100s in the Hills event).

What spare parts and tools do others take for their M416 trailers? I have virtually no experience with this type of trailer. Previous owner claims wheel bearings were just replaced (been driven maybe 600 miles since replaced). Has new tires. Lights and wiring are relatively new.

Thanks for any recommendations.

I bought my M416 about ten years ago and haven't done any maintenance to the wheel bearings. Like my two other military trailers I keep checking the hubs for heat. As of yet I haven't noticed any heat even in the heat here in AZ. When I first purchased the trailers I brought tools and grease along. Really should do some maintenance, but when I do I will probably replace the bearings and keep the old bearing as spares. If you don't get a chance to repack the bearings put some weight in the trailer and tow it at highway speeds and then check for heat. The way my luck goes I would repack the bearings before a planned trip only to somehow mess something up ruin the trip, 'Murphy's Law".

I'm running stock wheels/tires on my M416 and carry a spare using a FJ60 spare tire carrier mounted in front of the axle. Never had a need for the spare but reverting back to "Murphy's Law" first time I didn't carry a spare I would need it.

Thanks cruiserjunkie and Living in the Past. The PO seems pretty honest, so I'm sure he repacked before I purchased it. I think I'll follow Livings advice and run it heavy a little and check for heat. As for a spare tire, I just converted the rims and tires to the same size/type I have on my land cruiser. So, now I can use the spare tire I am carrying on the tow vehicle. Sure do appreciate the thoughts. Anyone other thoughts on this would be great.

Pulled it 200 miles this weekend (quick trip to town) and it seemed to do fine. No excessive heat generated at the hubs. Going to retorque the adaptor bolts and call it good for the trip.

Curious How you adapted the wheel bolt pattern to match the six bolt pattern used on the LCs before the 100 series? Do you still have the hand brake? Probably wouldn't switch mine since I tow it with my Sequoia as well as LCs.

I had wheel adaptors made to convert the 6 lug M416 bolt pattern to the land cruiser 5 lug lug bolt pattern (I'm running tundra steelies). Let me know if you decide to do this and I'll send you the name and phone number to the company that made the adaptors. I would recommend going with someone familiar with the M416 trailers as the center of the adaptor has to be made large enough to accommodate the M416 hub. Not a big deal, just need someone who is familiar with the dimensions to get the right fit (or you can measure and send to them). You'll also need to consider the offset of the rim you are using and the width of your fenders (you don't want to push out the tire so far that it hits the outer edge of your fenders). I have wider fenders and used 1.5 inch offset.

Still have the hand brake. Actually like having it when the trailer is disconnected and tent deployed.

Please post up the name and number to the company that made your adaptors Bloomer. Thanks!
