I was wondering if there was someone with an extra lunette casting (accepts the lunette ring, spans the draw-bars, and attaches the leg) they could make a couple measurements on?
I have a Japanese type-73 trailer which has a single lunette mounting hole which is mounted above the draw-bars. This places my ring 8" above the receiver center-line on my '05 Jeep Liberty CRD. To place the hitch high enough to level the draw-bars, I need to bring the hitch up the 8", which puts it in the middle of my spare tire. This requires me to bring the hitch mounting plate out over 12" from the receiver hitch. I am not exactly excited with that, and want to look at different options before I go through the process of creating a super long pintle mount.

If I can mount a standard M416 lunette casting to my draw-bars, I would be able to put the lunette ring in the "low" position effectively lowering it about 4-5" from stock. This would allow the use of a much shorter/lower/safer pintle level under the edge of the spare tire. I am mostly using the trailer for dirt roads, and hauling gravel/dirt/lumber/camp gear, so no heavy trail use requiring very large articulation on the vertical axis. Before I spend the money on one of these lunette castings, I was wondering if anyone had one they could pull a couple measurements off of to make sure it is remotely possible?
I need the following:
- dimensions of draw bar W+H where it bolts to the lunette casting
- width between draw bar mounting surfaces at the beginning of the lunette casting, and the end of the draw bar seats.
- length of the above mounting surface
(previous two will allow use of geometry to figure out angle off center line of draw-bars to see if mine are compatible with the casting)
- ID of large bolt hole
- distance from large to a point centered between both small bolt holes
...or if anyone has one of these within 45min of Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN that would be willing to have me over to take measurements... that would work too.
Thanks in advance
Rich
