I hear ya dude; however, I don't have any wagons and no problems with approach or departure angles--except with the rear end of my HJ-45. I don't really plan on tough stuff with it though. I see no need to run 35's or anything larger than my 33's. The SOA moves your body up but does nothing for ground clearance of your pumpkins--only the tires take care of that. I have plenty of clearance with my 33's. I am also taken to understand that axle wrap becomes more of a problem when you do an SOA mod.

I think there's a lot of misconception about SOA conversions, mostly stemming from the old hack jobs that one used to see 10 years ago. A well-done SOA conversion improves not only the clearance and flex offroad, but also vastly improves your ride on the road/highway. You're absolutely right, the only thing that gives you clearance on the pumpkins are bigger tires, but a SOA gives you the flex and articulation that allow for trail stability, and the clearance to run bigger tires. As for axle wrap, that has more to do with the springs you're running, I have about 5.5 years and 80K miles on a SOA conversion on my FJ62 and I've never had a problem with axle wrap.

I don't mean to force a SOA down anyone's throat, but it's definitely a modification that has evolved quite a bit in the last few years and is a very viable option for a lot of people.

I don't really have anything to add to this thread, except
I got mine!!!!

Well I started working on my trailer. It should be sprung over on 36's by the end of the day.

I welded land cruiser spindle with a birfield shaft to a peice of 3" pipe for my axle. I will use a mini truck disk brake hub and lock out. This way I can "lock" the hub and have "brakes" when the trailer is parked or if I have to dump it on a hill...it won't roll away...

The hubs turned out to be a great idea!! I can lock them in and have a great parking brake. It's not done, but I am getting close.

Looks great!
That's a seriously nice set up you have there.

thanks guys,

arya, if you are refering to the roof, that is a stock HJ61 option.

Nope, that's stock too, same a 60/62...I have had dreams of bobbing it though...

Hey guys,

Where would I find a m101 trailer?? I talked with the guy at futurelogistic and he said he was out for 6 weeks. any other ideas??

Just thought I would update my new mods to the trailer. I was getting tired of lifting everything up and over so today out came the cut off wheels. After getting sprayed with black, smelly tar like substance from the 1" tube all went well.

I cut the corners about 3" in and backed them with a piece of 1/8" thick 2" flat bar for the stop for the tailgate. The top of the trailer also got reinforced with 1" tube. I also welded the whole length of the floor to the frame. I didn't do anything with the bottoms of the corners as I think they are plenty stout.

The tailgate is getting straightened and reinforced with both 1" tube and flat bar. I haven't decided on hinges or latches yet but I do want it to swing straight down when not attached with chains.
