Hi,

I'm planning to tint my windows for both IR heat reasons as well as security / privacy. The latter is actually a significant influence - if you can't see inside well, less likely to break in to try and steal something.

That being said, how good is the moonroof glass at rejecting IR and heat? Should I go ahead and tint the moonroof as well for heat rejection (not so much for security / privacy)? Or does it reject heat pretty well? The side windows (but not the windshield?) seem to reject heat pretty well, at least relative to my other cars.

But not sure about the moonroof. Seems like it's more normal glass and heat / IR penetrates easily but again, not sure.

Thanks.

We have ceramic tint on all our moonroof on allcars. We have 5%

Since we always drive with the shade in open position , having the tint allows me to see outside (above) without having to deal with the intense Cali kommie heat

Thanks. Okay, will get the moonroof done with the other windows

Or...just close the moonroof shade. Can't see through that...

I want to be able to see through it. And actually, I don't think the shade helps with heat insulation; once the IR / heat is through the glass, it stays in the cabin. But the glass doesn't seem to block IR very well. Hoping the Crystalline will help (maybe get 20% for the roof).

Totally agree about the security factor. That's why I went limousine-level dark from the second row back...and wow. You can't see ANY contents...night or day, but can still see out pretty well. If they can't see the stuff, they aren't tempted to take what they don't know is there.

To me 20% isn't dark enough for moonroof

Had that

Thus I go 5% ceramic on all our moonroofs

Shade always open
Great Visibility no heat best of both worlds

I've had tint guys (different shops) tell me that they have had moonroofs shatter after tinting and say they don't like to do it. Anyone had experience with this?

I would love to have it done but have been nervous about breakage.

Our 9 vehicles have moonroof tinted with no issues

Have been tinting moonroof since 2004 and never had any shatter

However on acura forum, lot of tsx and lot of mdx moonroofs have shattered while driving. Some had factory tint and some didn't

I don't see how tint would lead to shattering, it is just putting a film on it

You can google moonroof shattering and you will see lot of oem moonroof shatter with no reason (happens on tacoma forum)

Thanks for the reply. Didn't make sense to me. Maybe I heard that with my old MDX and thought it to be a universal thing.
