Well I checked the service records (thank you lexus!) And the radiator was replaced like September 26th. I'm guessing the people traded it in because even after the new radiator, it still overheated.
That cap is certainly a problem but from what you are saying, it sounds like the vehicle had prior overheating problems prior to the replacement radiator. You may not be out of the woods just yet.

Yeah, I still watch my OBD app like a hawk, much to the pain and amusement of my girlfriend. Luckily, the 2uz Fe coolant system is decently simple and incredibly well documented. I'll rest easier once I have the OEM heater fittings on, and the brass removed.

Huh. Was that how they shipped it lol. That is why I do my own stuff, as much as I can. You should also try troubleshooting from easiest and cheapest to hard and $$$. For instance, I would have pulled the rad cap and got it up to temp to see if coolant was moving through the radiator.

Whoops. In all fairness. That's a stupid mistake but I can see how that could easily be overlooked when doing a bigger job.
I don't really see how it was overlooked...unless they were dong it in the dark. The thing is staring you in the face, you look at it putting on the dang hose

I also work on my own for this reason. I did pull the cap and when I saw it wasn't, I guessed it must be a bad pump, not incompetence....

The tech and service writer were busy making an upsell list to confuse the owner. And then screwed up the original repair. :p

Seems like it would be more work to put that hose over a rubber cap then to take the cap off and then put the hose on. With the cap off it's a smaller diameter, plus puttin rubber over rubber would be tough.

I think you're giving this guy WAY more credit for thinking than he deserves... haha
