Long

I wanted to make better use of the space in the upper console compartment and I do not use the phone anymore. I figured I would just unplug the handset in the lower compartment & remove cradle and pull the 15A “Tel” fuse.

Unfortunately this put the radio on permanent mute, got out the EWD and found out that the phone has connections to both the radio for muting and to take control of the left rear speaker during calls. It also has a connection in to the AC system, I am not sure why, lower the fan speed?

It needed more gutting.

Pulled the left rear cargo panel and removed the phone transceiver, speaker relay, and a smaller silver box marked Toyota and Fulitsu Ten that is not documented in the EWD. The box appears to be some kind of power conditioner or filter, it has a large coil (looks like a transformer) a cap and a large diode inside.

This left just two plugs coming out of the harness in the back, for the left rear speaker to operate the two plugs (T8 & T9) needed to be plugged together but connecting those 4 pins also randomly connected another 18 pins most going to the foreword part of the phone system and to the radio and AC system, looking at the EDW there were two plugs under the console (M2 & M3 ) one of with was powered form another fuse (ECU-IG 15A) that also powered other systems so I could not just pull that fuse also.

I was worried about sending power and/or ground to where it should not be so I pulled the passenger seat and center console to take a look, Turns out one of the plugs (the one with power and ground) was for charging the removable flip phone version and was not connected to anything on my LX witch has the hard mount phone option, and the second plug just plugged into the harness that went directly into the lower console and by unplugging the phone it was already safed,

So if I had left the console alone it would have been fine but nwo I know. wile the console was out I did pull out the stub harness and connector block to make for a little more room in the lower console compartment to go with the big gains in the upper, I taped the up two plugs to protect the pins and then taped them to the CD changer in a place out of the way of the conole structure.

I may try to use the antenna later as an external antenna for a regular digital cell phone so I left it. I am going to look for a cover so I can delete the steering wheel switches later.

Hopefully this will save someone some time, the Analog network is now dead in my area and will be gone nation wide in a few years so no need for us to waste power and space on this dead weight.

Thanks for the great write up. Please post a pic of the steering wheel if possible, I'd like to see the button setup.

I finally got around to doing most of the LX450 phone delete, as discussed in this thread.
For anyone who still wants—or needs—to do the LX450 phone delete:
Removing the 15A “Tel” fuse is not optional. If you leave it in and have wired a new head unit into the factory LX450 harness, your speakers will go silent. Best case, your head unit throws an error. Worst case, it blows a fuse or gets damaged.

Also- Once I removed the 15A “Tel” fuse from the under-hood fuse box, I checked and there was no power coming from the harness where the old phone system was connected.
