Hello All,

About 2 years ago, I noticed occassionally, early in the morning, the car won't start when the key was turned/cranked? It sounded as if the cable was lose and infact moving the battery around would make the problem go away.

I eventaually ended up getting a new battery (bad battery) and despite changing it, still from time to time the starting issue (immediatley dying when cranked) continued.

2 months ago ended up replacing that battery too and once again bad battery. Well I decided to buy a Red top Optima this time, thinking the cranking issue was the battery.

Well, I still have that issue (On and off) and it seems like it's always in the morning. Dropped it off at the indy to change the starter but 2 mornings and he can't duplicate the problem. He suggested I wait before plucking down $500 on the starter replacement.

Any suggestions you guys have in this situation?

Thanks

What noise does it make when it won't start? Is it a single click from starter & no engine crank, no response from starter at all, or a rapid clicking noise?

What year LX and how many miles?

Sorry for my ignorance, but when cranked, it would sound as if it wants to ctart but then dies, no clicking sounds. Upuntil now, it would always start on the second attempt but last time it took atleast 2-3 attempts before it started.

Now it's a different story at the mechanics where he didn't have any issues starting the truck even when it was parked outside overnight.

The truck has 191,000 big grin miles.

Well if it's turning the motor over its likely not a bad starter. Could be a bad ground somewhere, partially burned fuse, fuel pump, or a lot of other things. You may be stuck with driving it until it becomes more frequent and can be diagnosed.
