i was going to do a video of this and post it to youtube (just joking) but i have a serious question. the original manual is two volumes and the “authorized reprinting” is a single binding?

i asked the vendor before i bought this and he said it was the full two volumes but i figure i should trust but verify.

it’s sort of confusing and i want to make sure i am not missing anything.

THANKS

<edit: a clarification on this question. the LEXUS lists a TWO VOLUME FSM. i think this comes as a single bound volume.
and the LC lists a single volume FSM and an Electronics Manual.
both “sets” of these cover the same material basically in basically (exactly?!) the same way.
when it says REPAIR GUIDES this means factory service manual (FSM).>

Did you just buy off amazon? I bought the same one and it is just one book, there is also a electrical book

hey man,

thanks. OK, i may have gotten confused. the HELM site that someone referred me to shows for the LAND CRUISER a FSM of /one/ volume and a volume on the ELECTRONICS. the same site shows a TWO VOLUME FSM for the Lexus LX 450 (which i have). then it shows an Owner's Manual. (pics below).

originally i wanted the Lexus FSM but they are out of stock. also they are out of stock for the LAND CRUISER FSM and for the LAND CRUISER Electronic Manual.

so i went to ebay and this guy told me it was a TWO volume manual but this is really my mistake i think since it is not a good question. since the LAND CRUISER has one volume FSM and one volume Electronic Guide. only the LEXUS FSM says it is two volumes.

1997 Toyota Land Cruiser OEM Repair Manual | eBay

if that makes sense and you follow.

the LEXUS Owner's Manual has photographs in addition to the diagrams in the LC Owner's Manual. so i was interested in getting that to see what was in it.

but i guess i bit the bullet and got the one volume LC FSM thinking that i would be ordering LC parts.

but i'm not exactly sure if the part numbers are the same in the two manuals or if they are even listed by part numbers in the FSM.

unless someone has a two volume lexus FSM they want to sell i guess i will use the LC paper copy and reference the Lexus Digital Copy.

having a bit of a task here getting set up with factory documentation and the fiche and /whatever/ else is avaiiable obviously...

I think the FSM and the Factory Repair Manual for the LX450 are the same thing.

I have the two volume set of the RM515U (Vol. 1 & Vol. 2) in hard-copy. They are reprints but they seem identical to what would have come from Lexus. I purchased mine a few years ago so can't help you out with current sources.

The pic of the table of contents is below (same table of contents page for both manuals but the content is broken up between the two). Vol. 1 covers up to "Cooling" and Vol. 2 picks up at "Lubrication".

The other useful book I have found is the LX450 Electrical Wiring Diagram - EWD299U. The table of contents is below.

hey mingus. thanks a lot. just having someone to bounce things off of is helpful. you have to write it out and re-read what you wrote!
so i see the two images i posted both say “Repair Manual”. one looks like two volumes and one looks like it is one volume. must be OEM versus reprint(?). and both of these must be the “factory service manual” i guess.
can i ask you this? i am going to print your table of contents. i DON’T see this in my digital copy.

1. do you have an INDEX at the back?

2. do you mind looking at my FIRST PAGE in the digital copy and the LAST PAGE (the wiring diagram) and tell me if i am missing anything?

it is hard to navigate without an index or table of contents and i don’t know what i’m missing...
THANKS
jon

1. The same index is at the back of both volumes of RM515U - I will post pics of it below.
2. I do not know where the two pics you posted (your 1st and last page) fit in relation to the printed copy. I am sure they are in there somewhere, but they are not the first and last pages of the printed volumes.

FWIW - I have not had good luck with the organization of the digital versions of the LX450 FSM/Repair Manuals floating around MUD and the web in general. The LC versions of the digital manuals seem more complete. That is what led me to purchase the paper copies.

If you do have the chance to purchase the '95-'97 LC version of the FSM/Repair Manuals, that will cover you for 99% of the repairs/diagnostics of the LX450. They are essentially the same vehicle. Search function will pull up many threads on the topic, but off the top of my head the only real differences between the base LC and the LX are the LX body cladding, different sub-woofer/center console, different grill/headlights, LX has auto climate control, possible mobile phone wiring and controls, and the front seat cushion foam is slightly different. Other than that, all parts and repair procedures are interchangeable.

hey mingles
thanks a lot.
so just to make sure i am following.
for the 97 LX 450:
for digital copies:
1. 97 LC is best
2. 97 LX 450 is a weak second
for paper copies:
1. 97 LX 450 is best
- and take a 3 hole punch authorized reproduction if you can’t find the bound volume...?!
2. 97 LC bound volume would also work fine but you need to also buy the Electrical Manual to have a complete set.
is that about right?
waiting on word from HelmInc but i /think/ if i have it right the single volume lx 450 manual when available is $80 and the TWO volume LX manuals run about $130.
which means i might send back this LC volume if i can hold out for HelmInc for the single lx 450 manual.
or maybe open it and start using it and sell it when i get the lexus printed volume i guess...

Sounds like you have a plan....

Don't overlook the search function on MUD as there are literally DECADES of LC/LX experience, tips, insights, and maintenance procedures that often go way beyond what the FSM has. Between the two sources of info, I have not found a problem or system on the vehicle that can't be fixed or rebuilt.

hi mingles.

thanks again! making use of the archives like i am writing a thesis. sure is a lot of info but of course i can’t complain. just having a hard time getting an overall strategy for my vehicle i guess. hard to get a comprehensive plan when you don’t know what you are looking at yet.

just as an update on the digital guides.

the two 1996 LC manuals here appear to be one big pdf and the second listing is separate pff’s in individual folders. same info just organized differently (and at first blush it looks A LOT DIFFERENT than the info in the LX450 manual...).

i’d you are looking for the 1997 LX as i am then you have the 97 LX link. but it appears partly incorrect and/or incomplete.

if anyone wants to loan out the manual dor rhe 1997 LX i could go through and scan a “supplemental” and see if we could add it to the FAQ.

i’ve also posted this request to the hell of a price thread.

For Sale - 40, 50, 60, and 80 series FSM for a hell of a price.
