Lately i have been having trouble with my key ignition switch. It would take a few moments of wiggleing and fiddleing to get the key to get out of lock and turn to start. One time it took me almost 5 minutes to get out of the garage. I called a locksmith and she recommended powdered graphite. Being familiar with this product from my pinewood derby days with my sons, i dug around a little and found some. I pumped in a liberal amount and inserted the key 10-15 times. Pumped in some more and repeated. Let me tell you boys, we are talking Butter baby!!! Smoother than a babies backside.

Go to your local hobby shop and invest $4.00 in a tube of this stuff. Your ignition will never be smoother.........

I've been having this problem too! I have some graphite in my garage. Ill give it a shot. Thanks

Worn keys can do this as well, lubing will mask the problem for a while. It can cause a lot of wear on the tumbler internals.

Makes a major improvement on door and tailgate tumblers too.

THIS.

It's time to go to Tyotoa and have them cut you a new key via your VIN. My 3rd Gen 4runner had the same issue. The graphite "fixed it" for a little while. New keys, cut via VIN (not copies of the old, worn-out key) is a permanent fix.

The ignition acted exactly the same way with all 3 keys.........

Absolutely. Still smooth and no issues.

Did my GS400 and my son's jeep as well.

Not that i am aware of. All should be fine.

Does the graphite get all over your keys and then your clothes??
