I'm sure Jason will come through with my questions soon but I'm really curious about cross chatper interaction.

As I understand it each chapter is kind of its own entity under the lslc umbrella, so dues, events, etc. are set by each.

Which leads me to the question of dues. Our San Antonio chapter has decided not to collect dues. Does this effect the whole of lslc state wide? Currently if a decision is made for anything that needs funding, a group pay in will be requested.

Also who handles the membership cards? If our chapter is not collecting dues, how is the cost for cards covered? Should our chapter handle that in house, and if so is there a standard format to use?

Let me ask you guys too if it sounds like our house is in order so far: We have a president, vp, and treasurer. Following the requirements on the lslc for membership, tlca, diver's license, toyota, etc. Have an offical date each month and location to meet.

Thanks!

I'm not the membership guy for our club, but I think you might want to collect *some* dues just to cover administrative costs (like membership cards, stickers, t-shirts, etc.). In the past, the Dallas chapter was the one making the cards and mailing out membership packets. We are are now trying to be more independent with taking in membership dues via paypal on our website. Maybe we should have an LSLC officer's meeting with all of the chapters?

See I thought the Dallas chapter sent out the membership packets. I have no problem with the chapters being more independent, but there should be a uniform standard for the packets. A officer's meeting would be great.

Administratively we've been very disorganized lately. The intention was to start the cards and welcome packets back up for 2008. We made all dues due in January 08 so we will start fresh with collecting member information. (We could use volunteers here.)

As far as collecting dues. I don't think that we require it for chapters really. We use it for administrative costs and for fronting costs of t-shirts, hats, etc. so we can buy them ahead of an event (ICBM) and then pay it back from sales. It also gets used for our Christmas charity and for buying cool stuff for the club. We also used to support groups like Blue Ribbon and SWFWDA.

If you want to forgo the dues for now and just hang out, I fully support that. If you guys are going to be at ICBM, let's get together for a few minutes.

Jason, if you need help in this area i don't mind stepping up and helping out.

Jason

We have been using the dues for purchase like caps and hot dogs and stuff for runs and clean up, we also use the money for the xmas party also. It just seamed easier on our part to keep the money and memberships where it was being used. We always are short and need fund raiser though. ICBM is an awsome run where we have adopted trails and old camp.:beer::beer::beer:

as a chapter if SA does not want to collect dues then there is no way to pay for packets and swag so there wouldnt be any for them/us. if as a chapter we /them wanted packets and swag we/them need to collect dues to pay for it not ask other chapters that do collect dues to pay for us/them :grinpimp:
