Haven't heard anything about planning for the boil yet. I see the dates were set for Oct. 8th-10th but I was wondering if it is still on.

If not, I will still be camping in the State Park and spending most every night on the beach with a fire pit doing some surf fishing if anyone wants to join me.

So far it's me and my family, Senoj and his family and I think Brock is going. I have a 3 yo boy and he has a 2 yo girl so I know we will be going to Fort Fisher sometime on Saturday.

Wife and I will be up there without or without anyone else...likely that Friday through Sunday morning. Will likely take same route as last year and ride ferry across. Do Aquarium and Ft Fisher...fish maybe bring a kayak again and relax.

Do you know if you can take camper trailers on the ferry or do you have to drive around? If you have to drive around it might not be worth bringing the trailer.

Edit: Never mind, just found where they say anything that is legal on the hwy is legal on the ferry.

It's going to happen...just still in planning.

Activities

Guys,

Since I missed it last year, and for other new members,

Can someone give us the specifics on the Lowcountry Boil (i.e. location, planned activities, things to do on our own, conditions to expect, what to pack, etc.)? Thought we should get this going. May help others want to join up and come.

ALSO, can you rent sea kayaks up there? Are there bike trails?

Those are some million dollar questions right there.

I am just packing what I need to camp on the beach and be self sufficient for 3 days. Doing some surf fishing, and taking the kid to Fort Fisher. I may get a camp spot for the trailer in the State park to have some creature comforts for the family, but I really plan on being on the beach both nights.

Southport - Fort Fisher Ferry Information Here is a link for the ferry times, and you can get a beach pass from some of the local convenience stores. Then just drive down the beach and pick a spot. Should be pretty open that time of year.

Perfect...thanks. Guys, let's get the word out. This is a very unique wheeling/ camping experience. I would think those in UC and other area clubs would want to come. How can we promote this? This should definitely be our signature club event. I'm planning on some kayaking, bicycling, and beach sports.

I am getting excited, I just wish it was still in Beaufort.

Kinda weird having our signature event in ONSC territory. Why did we change it? Was it too far to drive? It had a lot of things for the kids, and excellent boating etc.

Why we did it....
-Because this is a Land Cruiser group and almost everyone was interested in some type of wheeling on the beach in coordination with the event. Carolina Beach is the last known location on east coast where you can not only drive but also camp overnight and have fire.

-The location and setup keeps everyone together for more interaction

-Puts you right on beach for fishing, kayaking, wading, frisbee, volleyball, bocce ball, etc

-boat landing not far away, aquarium in Ft Fisher, diners and other vendors in town

More of the Lowcountry Boil experience all around. More central to UC and ONSC involvement if they desire to join us.

We had a good showing last year in spite of weather....DBENKE, PROINV, SPARKS TRD, Brock and wife, Mylene and inlaws, Bill Wright, Rick and Cat, Maglight and family, Scott Shelley and wife and sister in law, Dustin, LexTech and wife, and think one more....10+ vehicles and 24+ people. Pretty good showing I thought.

What he said...(just in a nicer tone)

I don't claim to have any input since I obviously don't attend any meetings. I was just wondering how we changed venues.

Let me say it again in case you missed it sour-puss, I AM EXCITED ABOUT CAROLINA BEACH!
