Well a couple of months have gone by with no return of my low idle symptoms so I thought I'd post a few pics/instrucitons for other 1/2  guys like myself. :flipoff2:

When coming to a stop the truck would idle low and rough coming close to dying. So with the input of some on the board it seems to be fixed. But it did take more than just spraying in throttle body cleaner. Here's what I did:

1. Bought some 3M throttle body spray cleaner.
2. Jacked up the driver's side of the truck 3 or 4 inches so that the intake was running down hill toward the passenger side.
3. Loosened the cover for the air filter (3 clamps and wingnut).
4. Loosened the clamps on the air cleaner hose (big black running from air filter to throttle body).
5. Gently pulled and twisted the air cleaner hose to remove it first from the air filter side and then from the TB side.
6. Placed a towel under the opening to the TB. (To catch the TB cleaner as it runs out.)
7. Wedged the gas pedal down to open the throttle valve.
8. Assembled a fancy thottle valve cleaning tool by placing a wash cloth over the end of the center cap pry bar. Secured it on there with a hose clamp. (need not use a constant tension clamp :flipoff2:)
9. Sprayed a modest amount of cleaner on the valve. Let it soak in and excess run out.
10. Saturated the wash cloth with TB cleaner and started gently scrubbing away. Taking lots of time to thoroughly clean both sides of the valve plate and paying extra attention to the edges and pivot points and area around the valve. Again, take your time and get it good.
11. During this process the wash cloth became black real quick and needed replaced and re-sprayed a few times until finally it no longer turned black during the cleaning process.
12. When finished the valve should snap closed smoothly and with a nice clean metal-on-metal "clink".
13. As per the 3M instructions, I allowed the truck to sit for awhile with the throttle valve open to allow all vapors from the cleaner to evaporate from the chamber.
14. Re-assemble.
15. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but IIRC it's a good idea to change engine oil after spraying the cleaner in there?

The result has been a more consistent idle around 650 rpms or so.

If I'm off on some of the terminology or need clarification, please correct me. Also, be aware of the other common low idle problem causes, one of which is a cracked air cleaner hose. Others?

Pics as fast as I can post 'em.

First one: 3M TB cleaner.

valve closed (note: pic taken post-cleaning)

valve open (pic before cleaning notice gunk around edges and sruface of plate) Ignore the gunk in the background...project for another day :flipoff2:

Fancy TB cleaner tool (hint: don't let the :princess: catch you with a good washcloth :-\ )

Think JUNK is posting this in FAQ so please correct me where I'm wrong so we can get it straight.

Nice job Moj. So you were able to get the far side of the plate (the side the turns away from you when opening the throttle) clean without taking the T.B. off?

Just curious, why all the gymnastics to avoid pulling the T.B.? Me and another cruiser flunky took ours off this weekend. Hadn't ever done it before, and we cleaned them both in about half a day, plus pulled the VSV and jerked around with it a bit. Really not very difficult (with the FSM of course ::)), and after you've done it once, could probably pull it in 20 mins. while draining a #6. That way could also do a little cleaning on that intake chamber while it's off :D.

Thanks, Yes, was able to get the back side of the plate no problema. Not much gymnastics really, just spelled out every process step by step from an instructional point of view.
