looking to swap over to diesel

i'm new to the diesel realm. i am thinking about putting a diesel into my 88 fj62. its all stock original. i'm shure theres a thread posted somewhere on this. will the drivetrain, and everything mate for the most part? what mods would i have to do?

Search is your friend. There are quite a few threads out there on the subject. Whatever you chose, I would ditch the auto (my opinion), and you can probably count on moving at least one front mount, if not both. A few guys on here have done it though, so info is there. Your budget will determine what direction makes the most sense for you. Toyota is pricey, but probably and "easier" swap than going cummins or other.

Decide your budget then go from there. If you want a toyota diesel that has more power than your 3Fe then it will cost at least $7k for the engine.
The 12HT has good power and will bolt up to your gearbox and so will the 2H which will not have the same power.

Landcruisers are designed to take a range of petrol or diesel engines ,so many boltholes are already in the engine bay for thing like fuel filters ,fuel lines and battery trays.
The diesel radiators are also a straight bolt up.
The frame will need new frame brackets welded on to accept the diesel.
The electrical side is fairly easy and so is the fuel system from tank to engine.
Various engines use different types of pickups for the gauges and the gauges can be different also.
 
A search would be a good idea, but to summarize, from my interpretation: given that you are in the US, most of the bugs involved in cummins swaps have been worked out, and since cummins engines are widely available and relatively cheap, I think it makes the most sense. In Canada we can bring in JDM market low km trucks, but in the US you don't have that luxury, hence the suggestion to go cummins.
