I think one thing that most somewhat mentioned is the maintenance costs...however, if doing the work yourself they probably won't be that much. My bro has had his 4 or 5 years and in that time, other than a seal or two has put nothing in it, has been his daily driver that entire time, he trust dealers almost as much as I do (would NEVER take any vehicle to any dealer period)...so any fixes have been time consuming for us, but cheap...however, if you aren't in that same boat...shop time = $$$$.

My bro's kinda reminds me of a old FJ40 or something (hold on you bashers, let me explain!), it's rough, loud, creaks, feels like a old vehicle at times...course the problem with that is the 40 IS old...whereas the Disco isn't, but still feels old... :D

I don't mind wrenching and i rarely take a vehicle to the dealer if i don't have too. So that wouldn't be too much of a problem.. but the simple fact of the matter is ... if you're always replacing things or repairing general parts then you're wasting your mod money. I rather put my money into this mod or that mod instead of "yeah i was going to put a _____ on the disco this weekend, but friday ____ happened" That is what i dont want. I dont mind maintenance, in fact working on a rig all the time to make sure its looked after is fine with me... and i like that... but i don't want to have to always think twice about the vehicle. It sounds to me like i would be reluctant to trust a Disco.

I've heard of Disco's that have been somewhat reliable, such at Mark's brother's, but, based on my experience and what I've seen, those seem to be the exception rather than the norm.

The inverse seems to be true of Land Cruisers.

Heck, just peruse the first page of the 80 series section here, and you see one problem out of 30 threads: a brake light on the dash. You also have the PHH, but that is prev. maintenance so I'll leave that out. 3.33% of threads cover problems

Go to discoweb.org and look at the first page of the Disco board. There are 8 threads out of 25 concerning problems on the front page alone, and many of those threads are posted by people with multiple problems all included in just the one thread. 32% of threads cover problems (almost 10x that of the Cruiser board)

This is obviously leaving out variables like # of units sold in the US, but still.... the proof is in the pudding.

I would think that the # of units sold in the US would have to be higher for the LC than that of the RR??? So that would mean, with less complaints.. and even more vehicles... the result is even stronger.

Well with a open mind still... it looks like RR is getting blown out of the water ... for reliability. You guys should be REPS for Toyota North America. lol
