agreed - I don't overly tighten mine and am able to remove them fairly easily every time. just make sure they're seated well and just a quarter turn on top of that is all I do.

Its probably been at least 15 years since I have even looked at a filter wrench (for a filter).

I tried numerous approaches and did not want to get oil everywhere -- with the screwdriver approach. So instead I bought the oil filter wrench from Autozone -- Part #W54108 for Filter 90915-YZZD3. 3/8" ratchet on it. Works like a charm.
