This is just great! I have seen race shops that aren't as meticulous as this. Keep up the great work.

I know but that' s what came with it and just trying to keep the cost down thanks for looking out I'm trying to keep it as close as possible with what I have to work with I'm finding out it's really hard to find parts and nobody really wants to give up any even if they don't need them I'm a Harley guy and we all work together in helping each other with parts even if we don't need them
I disagree with this statement, in my experience the cruiser community is pretty generous to each other. That being said, I've been known to hoard some hard-to-find parts. I've a few starters laying around, not sure if they're 'periond correct' though, I can take a photo if you're interested.
Is the reason you're going with a 4-spd, 'cause that's what you had to start with? I wouldn't think it'd be too hard to find a 3-spd, column shift for it. (or too expensive)
I'm sure you can find an inexpensive 3speed and column shifter...seeing as many just want to get rid of them...****...you might even be able to swap the 4speed with someone for their 3speed. Don't rush into things...wait a little...things have a way of working out in the end.
Either way, it is your rig, so make yourself happy first, as I am sure it will be stunning when completed![]()
I have only been into this car for about 9 months and didn't know a thing about Land cruisers before hand I'm now hooked and obsessed with these dam things and I want to do a 65 fj45 now
I agree with Tom on keeping the 4-speed tranny and transfercase that came with the 40, it will make a great driver and can be changed back to stock if it ever needed to. (PLUS, it's the cleanest set-up I have ever rebuilt and I want to see that shining tranny and transfer case on the road) BTW speaking of hoarders I have most all parts from an early 61-63 tranny and t/c for sale. Tom is doing a fantastic job, and his restoring background is a real asset to the Land Cruiser Community. John Pardi

What kind of hub lock-outs are those? They don't look like Warn or Selectro, which are the only kind I've seen.
BTW, I'm extremely envious of your resources and abilities...not to mention the OEM doors you have there. Are you gonig to go with canvas or vinyl on the top?
warn hubs
what shocks are those? a napa or local auto parts?
you may want to post up info on that...if anybody wants to go the same rout
also at one time i used some black paint on the letters for the hub writing...and red dots...looked sharp for quite awhile...then i got lazy and its all black now LOL
Curious to see a picture of the hand brake clearance to the crossmember tube just behind it. Can't remember did this come with the four speed? The only reason I bring it up I installed a four speed into my 68 years ago. I ended up using some spacers under the front motor mounts to drop the back of the transfer case down a little for clearance on the tub. I did it with the tub on and it was a pain. I know you already painted the frame but you may want to address this before the tub goes on. My son has been using my 68 and now the clutch is toast. It's going to be a major pain to replace it. Starting with the 73 model Toyota modified the frame tub and the tunnel cover for the extra length of the four speed. Before that it really wasn't designed for a four speed. The 65 FJ45 on the other hand will be a lot easier to install a four speed.
