Got to move and soon. If not the military will not move me for nothing, and i am not as young as i used to be.

What we are looking for here.

Want a place in the COUNTRY. Nothing too close to a city. Not a big house either but would like it to be brick. Would like either a garage or a barn of some sorts. Really need both but can work with one to begin with. Somewhere around 20 - 50 acres, really like 50 acres but with our budget it will be tight.

Now the hard part. Budget. Am looking to try and stay in the 250,000 range.

Really want to be out west somewhere, but right about now i just need to leave Nam.

Thanks for any and all idea's / help.

Darin, define "out west". You mean like Asheville, or Oregon?

i know TN was on the list at one point; what about Norhtern Georgia? Or are you tyrin to stay in NC now?

Truth be told all.

I am just trying to get out of Nam. Been here entirely too long and its past time to go. Have 1.5 years before the military will not move me, and am getting to far up in age to want to do another Dity move.

And want / need our horses on our property.

And need a bigger garage. Going to have to rent a storage pod tomorrow to put the 45 in so i can work on this 40. And my other 40 is outside right now also. So i guess its just a culmination of a bunch of things really. But Nam is getting real old real fast.

Would love to go to TN, but at this point in life i am not picky. Heck even something as close as Southern Pines. Just want to get away from here.

And i have never done anything like this before.

The Military has always told me where i was moving, and i knew i had a job there. Thats the good thing about retirement / disability.

Guess i should post an update now.

Thanks to Jasons wife we have put a bid on a house. Not the size i would like but it is in my price range.

Other thing is its only about 8 miles from the house i am in right now. Now i have no reason to leave this job.

Congrats, hope the deal goes through for you...

Darin, I am lost..if you are in Nam, and wanted to get out...and just bid on a house 8 miles from where you are :meh:

Or am I lost somewhere ? Either way, good luck.

Oh, you are not lost, just my dream is lost. Trying to find a house away from where we are is a pain in the you know what. We both want to leave here, but right now i guess it is not in the cards.

I feel your pain. I have discovered that no matter how much you really want to relocate, it can be near impossible to pull off without some hefty cash reserves. Trouble with the whole scenario is, without a company paying to relocate, you are taking a pretty huge risk to sell, move, and then assume you will have a job when you get there relatively quickly. With the economy like it is, I don't like that risk. Add kids into that, tons of stuff, and the fact that employers always want to hire locally, and maybe that both you and your wife need work, and you are up against the wall. If the military will move you for free, TAKE IT while you can....but only if you can swing no income for 6 months.

You are right with all of the above. Though we would like to move out to the middle of no where i do not realistically think it would be feasible. With the price of trying to comute everyday and trying to find jobs for both of us in this economy i think it was a better idea to stay around where we both had jobs / knew people. Not to say i like staying here, just that right now it would be better for the family.

That suck Darin, want to buy my house in Holly Springs :D 2972 sq. feet with at least 8' between houses, and it is fenced :D

I am dying to get out of mine as well.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Brad

Now these places start coming out thanks guys. Just kidding ya'll.

Going out next Wed for the home inspection and soon for the appraisal, so we shall see.

Then the fun of putting ours on the market. Good thing about here though, it is a good time for selling with this BRAC stuff coming our way. That and these next few months are when guys PCS.

Depending on who moves into the two houses next to me I might be dying to get out of mine also.

Don't tell me your all's neighborhoods are getting as bad as this one.

We have cars on blocks and the local teenagers run the neighborhood because the local cops are too scared to do anything. Good thing about here is that they will not mess with me cause they know what i used to do . And we have garage doors that have been pushed in for over 3 years now. If i would have drove into this neighborhood years ago when we were looking and all this stuff would of been like that back then i would have turned around and looked elsewhere
