Hey all,
I am looking for a good cruiser mechanic in the surry county area. a little background, I have a 1990 FJ62 with 110,000 on it. My wife is using it as her daily driver while I am deployed. a couple of months ago she noticed it would start slipping from first to second when she would take off from a dead stop (RPM's would shoot really high but the truck wouldn't move). she took it to a local transmission guy in the area and he looked it over and told her he couldn't figure it out but didn't believe it was the transmission. so I had her take it to two other mechanics in the area and niether of them could figure it out either. The last guy was recommended by my parents so I had her take the truck to him, with the FSM and I also bought a new kickdown cable and had him put that on. He replaced the kickdown cable and changed the fluid and had her pick it up. as soon as she got halfway home it started the same thing again. So she took it back to him and he tinkered with it some more and now she tells me it dosen't want to shift into park, it gets hung up in reverse and she has to jam it into park, so I believe he adjusted the shifter linkage wrong. I am at a loss and getting very frustrated not being there to be able to work on it, so long story short another guy on mud recomended that I post up in the club section to see if you guys knew of any good cruiser specific mechanics around. The truck is in Pinnacle, NC.
I appreciate any input you guys could give me.
Nate

Ha, I grew up in Pinnacle. Alas, I haven't spent any significant time in Surry County in almost 20 years, so I'm of no help really. We used to take our stuff to Herst (sp?) Garage in Pilot Mtn., but the mechanic/owner is retired now so no idea what's the deal there.

G'luck and thanks for your service!

Not quite sure where Pinnacle is but if you can get it to Darin down near Bragg i'm sure he could fix it.

not sure i trust it being safe enough for my wife to drive it all the way to ft bragg. appreciate the input though.

If needed i can trailer it also. Just a thought.

I just redid all the shifter linkage on my wifes 62 BTW, and it shifts great. Now if it had not been run low on fluid prior to me getting it , it would be perfectly shifting, but am going to get another transmission and build that one to go in this one one day.
