If all goes well I am taking the family up into Oregon for some adventures.

We will start from my folks ranch in Hayfork, Ca. and will travel to Lava Beds NM first. Looking for ideas on where to go from there. We will have the week after the 4th of July week to run around.

We like to do lots of things:

fishing
camping
photography
shooting
hot springs
ghost towns
fossil collecting
etc.

Our general plan is to head up into the state then cut west to the coast and come back down.

Anyone know anything about Route 3 of the backcountry discovery route?

Any cool spots we can wheel into? I will have my 2007 DC Tacoma.

Depending on what route you take we camped at Deer Creek outside of Cave Junction last weekend. It is a great spot on the Illinois River. Fish, shoot, pics, camping, etc.

There is always the McGrew Trail that takes into Sourdough campsite as well. Longer drive, but lots of scenery, etc.
Both spots are pretty secluded and primitive.

THere are some nice hot springs further north outside of Roseburg on Umpqua, but I haven't personally been to them.

Tons of great camping outside Bend, or if you go the costal route you can play in the dunes.

Drop me a PM when you are coming through and I'll try and meet up with you somewhere.

Cool, thanks! Deer Creek looks nice, how's the fishing there?

What about mosquitos, is early to mid-july alright?

It would be cool to meet up, it will be just me the wifey and our boy. I will definitely let you know what our plans are.

Rt 3 is really nice up until about Crescent Lake, coming from Lava Beds. Good camping and plenty of quiet and fishing along the way.

We are definitely still considering checking that out. How many folks drive it? Any must see or notable spots along the way?

SOme of the guys said they had some bites. I don't know when the best time the fish are running, but they are there.

Bugs pretty much non issue. May have some squitos but not bad. The moving water and light breeze in the canyon keep them min.

Esh knows the northern oregon area a lot better than I for that area.

The "fish" are at Ray's market in Selma on the way in. Fish there are few and far between.:frown:

If you are looking for a place to relax and get wet I'd recommend South Umpqua Falls out near Tiller. Should be swimmable by now. A wonderful spot alongside the road where the river flows over a huge sloping piece of granite with lots of sliding opportunities and swimming holes everywhere. We make 1-2 trips there every summer to check out the "beauty" Oregon has to offer(if you get my meaning) Just wear dark sunglasses so the wife/significant other can't see exactly where you are looking. Plenty of parking and bathrooms are there. No fees.;)
