How does one aquire a 45 pick up that is
a) restorable to factory set up(reasonably) ie not cut up.
b) not $20,000
I have been looking and would like anyones input on places I might not have thought about looking. I have been contacted by people wanting to sell unrestorable 45's and or imported RHD. I just want to find a reasonably decent 45 that was sent here by toyota. Any help would be great. One more question. Do some of these sellers think they can get restored $ for a rusty unrestorable truck?

Good luck with the search.

I looked off and on for about 10 years til i found the one i wanted on ebay of all places.

They are out there, just do not push it and you will find one.

My .02 cents anyway.

my fj45 story

 Hi,
It took me four years of hard research and constant checking of local and far away classified adds to find my 77fj45lwb. Tried bidding on ebay (unsuccessful I might add) and some close sales but no cigar. I found my fj45 by accident lying on a farmers field; just last year it is presently on a three year timeline of completion. (hopefully).
Dont rush things but be vigilant.

Yes

Some of the sellers DO think they can get resto'd $$ for a rusty truck. They're counting on someone anxious to get 'a truck' at any price. Be patient, as the others have said.

I paid a lot for my bodywork-complete (but engine/drivetrain-free) FJ45, but in the end, I'm in it for about what I expected to be. I was saved the agony of vending out paint/bodywork.

In some ways, resto's cost the same - you can buy a rusted out $500 '66 Mustang and replace every body panel on it and have $5000 in bodywork, or you can buy a rust-free '66 hardtop for $5000 and be right there. You have to choose your battles and if that means waiting longer or saving more money for the right rig, then do it that way.

They are out there but you do have to be patient. I found mine 2 years ago and it is a very slow process. Just can seem to get the money together for the big stuff, so I just pick away at it with pocket change.
