Good morning everyone, I am looking for a little advice, my son who is 18 is looking to buy a Fj40 and I was wondering what is the best buy 1) something with a body in good shape with all the parts or 2) a Cruiser with a rough body with no hard top or soft top and no hard doors and a rusted out floor but has a rebuilt engine, Chevy power steering, big lift with big tires and wheels. I don't really know what he wants to do with it, whether he is going to wheel it of fix it up. I don't know all the particulars like what kind of lift or things like that.
Thanks in advance

I say go with option 1. I would rather have a good body and all the parts vs. a bucket of rust and trying to figure out what the PO rigged up. He can always build his up over time.

Unless you like doing body work I would steer away from rust buckets. Also unless you know who did the work it would be better to buy an cruiser as unmolested as posible, then build it to your sons needs. Makes a good father son project!

I agree with RumBum. I went option 2 and you will spend a lot more money chasing after parts or spend a lot of time looking for deals. The cost of replacing a rusty tub and buying all of the parts you need can add up quickly.

Find the "better" rig and you can do what you want with it... if you go with option 2, it's a whole heck of a lot harder to go backwards.

Good luck to you, post up some pics and welcome. (someone will be giving you the "official welcome" shortly I'm sure. :D
