I'm looking for recommendations for a new tire for my 99 LC. I'm in Vermont for just this coming winter, after which I'll be back down south. So I'm looking for an A/T tire that will be good in snow/ice for the year but will also serve well as an "all-the-time" tire for afterwards. I'm trying to avoid buying a set of dedicated snow/ice tires since I'll only need them for a season. I'm really looking for a tire that strikes a good balance between everyday rideability (without being too noisy) and adequate winter performance. Any suggestions?

I'm very happy with the 295 Nitto Terra Grapplers I put on our 98. We go visit the Parents in Tahoe often and in the Winter they handle very well. during the other seasons they perform great on & offroad. Also the spare 295, (if you buy one) will fit up in the stock location.

On a different note, they have a strong odor!!:p

Here is the search results for the 100 series forum with "tires" in the title: https://forum.ih8mud.com/search.php?searchid=3696902

I've used the BFGoodrich All Terrains in the snow, loved them. Dont have any balance issues after about 8k hard miles with one poor offroad trip. They're fine on-road too...even though i sorely miss my extra 4" of track from my old aftermarket wheels and the tighter handling of the Michelin LTX M/S.

I have used the BFG all terrains, Nitto TG's, and now the Toyo AT's. I strongly prefer either the Nitto or the Toyo. I have not tried the Toyo in the snow but used the previous two in colorado. The Nitto out performed the BFG in just about every aspect. Great traction in everything except mud, and superior road manners.

I strongly recommend the Nitto's. I am on my second set and the first set lasted 55K in CO on road, off road, snow, ice, etc. I ran the 295/75R16 for a year with no lift. No complaints at all.

this is such a subjective topic, it's hard to make sense of individual testimonials.

Have a look at the overall ratings on tirerack.com etc, may be useful.

Cooper Discoverer ST and ST/C. I've used them for many southern VT winters.

Depends on what you want to spend. Tire rack rates all of them so go to their site.

Strongly agree.

GEARGUYWB: how would you compare the nitto and bfg in all other conditions?? rock, sand etc....

Thanks

And by the way, my Toyos rock, so throw those in the mix but def less street friendly as the others.

I did not find much difference in their capabilities. I made at least one trip to Moab on each and plenty of off road stuff in W. Co, both winter and summer.

What turned me off to the BFG's, is that while not bad on road, they pale in comparison to the Nitto's.

My take....they were so close to being equal off road that it's not funny, on road the Nittos are the champ.
