All the 2LTE's I've worked on just use gasket maker goop (whatever the right name is...) for oil pans. I believe you can buy special stuff from Toyota, or just use the Permatex version etc. you can find at your local auto parts place.

Hey Nick,

Well..... I would have thought it was going to need some rubber in there, but to your point, a little piece of the gasket worked it's way from between the pan and block and it's makin a mess of things, I would have just used Permatex in the first place had I known a could fudge on the gasket.

BTW, I finally got this 2L-T to run and make good power, thanks for all your help.

Hey Allen,

Glad you got it running well! I honestly wish I could have helped more, but was out of ideas. What was the problem you were having?

Just pull the pan, clean everything really well, and use some oil pan gasket maker RTV stuff?

Cheers!

I t was problem(s) that were creating difficulties coming to a positive result.

Timing:
I had purchased a front engine cover that was after market, it didn't have all the timing marks on it so I was at a disadvantage setting up the timing (ALWAYS buy factory engine components is the lesson learned here).

Injectors:
The original engine suffered a serious over heating situation (that is to say it was way cooked, fried, on the verge of a melt down) and stupidly I just reused the old injectors, not smart. I went ahead and replaced the injectors and glow plugs as well, they had to be toast, why ignore them at this point, I'm there, just fix them too.

The conversion to the mechanical fuel pump was and is surprisingly straight forward, no issues with the transmission/ECU at all.
The only trick is the tach is still in need of a converter to make it functional, I found an outfit in Australia that makes a unit you can wire in to correct this, I just haven't spent the $189.00+ to get it yet, I'll be doing that shortly.
I still need to address the "check engine" light as the EFI is no longer part of the equation.

Oddly enough the oil leak torqued me more than any of the other stuff, I've done engine overhauls more times than I can remember and this is the first time I've had a pan gasket fail, I get way more upset with making foolish mistakes than dealing with a head scratcher.

Thank so much for all your help and insight,

~Allen

Good deal Allen, I'm glad you kept at it until you figured it out. Should post up some details of your project.
