Hi
I am in AZ and considering buying a 100 series (2001) in Hayesville.

I wondered if there was anyone nearby that might be interested in taking a look at the cruiser for me?

thanks!
Andy

I would post in the SC-Upstate Cruiser forum. I can't think of any members in ONSC that far western NC but Upstate has some in that area.

Thanks Kenny and Johnny! I will try the SC-Upstate group. I think Ashville is 2.5 hours from Hayesville according to the seller - its also the nearest Toy dealer.

Drive a rust-free 40 out, double your money, and take the hundy back with you :D

2hours from Asheville or I would offer to look at it for you. Be careful with the Asheville Toyota dealership, I feel they aren't especially competent. I believe there is a diff dealership in Hendersonville but I have no experience with them

Thanks GaFJC!
The plan is to have dealership inspect the hundy and then based on that I will go see it. Unfortunately I don't have any better options at this point. If I go see it, I'll be taking the Slee buyers check list with me!

There is a gx470 at freedom ford in havelock.

I don't recall if the leaky manifolds (they tick) are on Slee's list or not. Big problem with the early 100 series. Can be corrected with Doug Thorley headers though, around $1400 installed. Also, the valve covers will likely leak. It isn't overly difficult to replace them. Honestly, many people just tighten them down and it works. Same with the power steering reservoir hoses.

Make sure you have the inspecting dealership inspect the steering rack for out of spec play. That's another $1400 or more repair.

Serp belt tensioner, drivers power lock actuator, CV boots, A/C condenser cover leaks, etc are all norm wear items for this year 100 series.

Also make sure you get a master transponder key.

Has the 90k service been completed?

Much if this the average weekend mechanic can do (sans the rack, 90k service and headers).

PM your contact info if you want more tips to use to your advantage when negotiating.

All super good points GaFJC - thanks.
90k service has not been done. will do it when I get back home - maybe myself. I am aware of the ticking problem...to be honest I am not too concerned about that. Dealership reported no leaks other than some seeping form the CV boots which is not a big deal I don't think. The boots themselves are intact. I have pictures of those.

I didn't specifically ask about the steering, but it is part of their "pre-purchse check list" ($95).

There is some surface rust on the frame and control arms, but apparently not unreasonable. Picture of that too.

Thanks for the guidance. I hope to be in the area on the 14th to check it out and hopefully drive it back.

Call up the good folks at Lowe Toyota; Sam and Onur (Beno) in Macon, GA. The Mud discount and cheap shipping are plus for all parts and you'll have a few with your 90k service. If you pay someone to do it expect $900 or more.

You should ask specifically about the steering rack and play. While I would guess they would look at wheel bearing play they might forget or overlook steering rack play. Hard to believe but possible. That's a bug ticker repair.

Good luck!
