Hi guys
Hope this is the right place to post. My 80 needs a major service before I hit the road later this summer. I'm looking for a good mechanic around Hollywood or West LA whom I could trust to perform some basic maintenance (landlord wouldn't let me use my backyard for DIY works:frown: ) as well as more tricky stuff, ie LR tank swap or OME lift. I suspect Hollywood Toyota is not an option, and I'm afraid TLC4x4 in the Valley would bust me, even if they're greatly qualified. I've been trying to build on confidence with my prior mechanics and stick to the guy when I happened to find a decent one, I wish I could do the same here. Any garage name to submit?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers

Could try Mark's Offroad in Burbank, he normally works on FJ62 and earlier.

Look in Toyota Trails, Hamer Toyota and Long Beach Toyota are associates.

4x4 doctor in Burbank
They did alot of locker installs on toyota's. There is a Cruiserhead wrench that works there (drives a built 40).

Maybe give them a call, see what they can do for you.

Bob's Union 76, right at 118 freeway and Balboa Blvd., in Granada Hills. 818-360-7606. Has worked on lots of cruisers done my front axle service, repacked bearings, done HG on another of my vehicles. Very reasonable and competent, but most importantly, transparently honest. Installs lots of parts I buy myself.

My name is Dan.

Also checkout Wasabi on this board- he's in OC. Works out of his garage. PM me for his phone # as he rarely checks PMs.

Thats funny I have class with that cruiserhead. 4x4 doctor does good work, you can also try man-a-fre in simi valley. You well find that most places will charge $85-$100 an hour for labor. Man-a-fre wanted $550 to install my 2.5 lift that i bought from them. K&H is also a good spot too.

Mechanic in Lawndale

There is a shop on Manhattan Beach and the 405 called Toyotech. I've only been going to them for a year or so but friends have been going for many years. They just replaced the head gasket on my truck. Although it was expensive, they were quite a bit cheaper than the quote I got from a local dealer.
