On another note, if you ever want to run low tire pressure, a 16 inch rim is gonna make the risk of pinch flats much greater. I ran 12 psi in my 34s this weekend and i had my head out the window to watch my tire come up over a rock, and im not sure if it was the momentum or the angle or what, i but it looked like i had about an inch and a half of space between the tread and the rim when it first hit the rock. If youre gonna run anything smaller than a 35 id say stick with the 15 incher unless low tire pressure isnt something that concerns you. A 16 inch wheel might be better for street use or towing though, less sidewall flex.

What got me wanting 16's was Nolen's OTB article in TT March/April 04. My take on it is this: sidewall flex is good for off roading to a point. At some point you get too much flex and the steering gets sloppy. My LTB's at 8 lbs will flex like crazy, but turning the truck at either slow or quick speeds is scary. Bigger wheels will lessen this effect.

I have been running 2 sets of tires, and am getting away from that. When I went from the 31's that have been my street tires for years to the 33's on my truck right now I could feel a lot of sidewall flex on the road. I am thinking that taller rim for my 35's will help out with that too.

Euclid, i suppose things are different when you are running bias plys. I imagine if you are looking to reduce sidewall flex a little then running 16s would probably do just that for you. Just wanted to make sure you were thinking about the negatives that come with a larger wheel too. Also, 16 inch tires seem to be more often than not a step higher on the load range than a comparably sized 15 inch tire too, so that would probably do a lot to combat the excess of sidewall flex youre talking about. Just wear a kidney belt.

Good points. I think I still like the idea of 16's if I could make it happen without taking out a loan.

Tried a 16x8 black mojave on my 62...

and the TRE hit the backside of the rim, no backset on the 16" size. So I'm waiting for a 15" wheel (-19 backset) to see if that works better.

Spacers from AllPro or Marlin Crawler... 1in. Solve that problem.

personally i would never get a 16" wheel. the tires are much more expensive than 15" wheels

Been the opposite in my experience for a similar sized tire (nothing exotic though, just 235/85R16s and some oddball 9.00R16s)

As for pinch flats, never been a problem either. A stiffer sidewall and lower sidewall height has never been anything but a positive for me.

None of that flacid feeling either when running tall skinny's.

Does anyone see any real differene between running a 7" and an 8" wide rim?

same here, I was on this band wagon for a little while but am happy with my 15" because of the same reason. I have had thousands and tousands of lbs on teh 15's with 35's with a loaded trailer and they have held up fine. 16" would be nice with lots of hauling but again I can't justify the price...

BFG 33x12.50R15 Mud Terrains $164.65
BFG 33X10.50R15 Mud Terrains $158.95
BFG LT285R16 Mud Terrains $206.95

I guess there is something to that. I set off to prove the prices were comparable.

I don't know who all has seen this, but there is another thread with 16" 80 series wheels on a 60 series... It looks a lot better than I thought it would.

I was actually thinking of finding some of those or some Tundra 5-spoke wheels, and running spacers. But with the difference in price per tire... Hmmmmm I dont know.

I already have the 16" tires, so I am just looking get rid of my ghetto spray paint wagon wheels eventually. Right now, I would just be happy to find 1 wheel that works. I have a 265/75/r16 spare tire, but my spare wheel is a 15"
