I ran 12 psi in my 34s this weekend and i had my head out the window to watch my tire come up over a rock, and im not sure if it was the momentum or the angle or what, i but it looked like i had about an inch and a half of space between the tread and the rim when it first hit the rock. If youre gonna run anything smaller than a 35 id say stick with the 15 incher unless low tire pressure isnt something that concerns you. A 16 inch wheel might be better for street use or towing though, less sidewall flex.
What got me wanting 16's was Nolen's OTB article in TT March/April 04. My take on it is this: sidewall flex is good for off roading to a point. At some point you get too much flex and the steering gets sloppy. My LTB's at 8 lbs will flex like crazy, but turning the truck at either slow or quick speeds is scary. Bigger wheels will lessen this effect.
I have been running 2 sets of tires, and am getting away from that. When I went from the 31's that have been my street tires for years to the 33's on my truck right now I could feel a lot of sidewall flex on the road. I am thinking that taller rim for my 35's will help out with that too.
