I thought I'd share my first experience with the Longfield Lifetime Wiper Seals, being a relative noob to the world of knuckles.
I've only helped do the knuckle job a HAMOM's and this is the first time doing one on my own. Not being the brightest bulb in the box, I try to make sure I cover my butt by reading twice, doing 3 times, redoing again and finally having someone else come over and fix it for me.
Remembering the order and orientation of the knuckle wiper seals is one small thing I don't mind taking off my mind and using these wipers sure does that. For the FJ-FZJ80, it replaces the felt, rubber and steel ring. Just put the UHMW ring on the inside of the knuckle ball, mount the steel ring/bolts, torque down and it makes an amazing fit.
I can now see the genius in the simple design, the plastic ring will wear/form to the knuckle ball making for a perfect seal. I tried to take some close up pics to share with others who haven't seen them installed...
Can't imagine going back to the OEM set up after using these. I guess a long term test will tell the tale but at on-set, looks like a sound idea/design to me...
