Just wondering: why did you go 24 gallon instead of 40? Both require spare relocation, so it seems that if you go that route, may as well get the largest tank possible.

At the time, my 24 gallon tank was the first one to be installed underneath the Slee 200 series rear bumper. So… I wasn’t sure what the clearance would be...and I’m pretty rough on rocks, etc.

The 24 is SUIUPER tucked, and looking at it now, I think a 40 would be ok too, especially if “up-armored” like my 24... So I think the 40 would work, too. That said, I love how the 24 is basically invisible unless really *trying* to see it.

I have the 40 gallon installed by Slee and am very happy with it. I tend to run some fairly technical stuff (e.g., East side of Top of the World in Moab) and have a couple of dents in the 40 gallon tank. If you will be dragging your back end off rock steps the 24 is probably a better solution.

I also think the overall volume of the factory tank and a 40 gallon tank creates some issues with the evaporative system in the LC. I had some issues with this early on, but things seem to be fine now.

Note: *If* you can get Slee to install it they upgrade lots of hoses and fittings for a more OEM like installation. Doing this is not inexpensive but results in a much cleaner installation IMO.

Overall this is one of the best modification I have done to my heavily modified 2016. YMMV (all puns intended).
 
I think the 12.5 would work just fine for me. not really interested in relocating the spare. Just some extra range would be nice. is Slee hesitant to do these installs?

No. They do them all the time. I would highly recommend them for the install as they go far and above just installing the kit. I have a 12.5 that I installed myself last year. Wasn't too bad and probably took me 6 hours with help. But, Long Range America cuts a lot of corners putting together this kit for the US and uses very cheap tubing, fittings, and fuel pump. As @Mendocino mentioned, when the guys at Slee install, they upgrade all the crappy parts that are included in the kit with better tubing, connectors, water tight electrical connectors, etc. I personally had two of the fuel pumps from the LRA kit fail in less than a year and was sick of replacing them. I know other people have had fuel pump failures and, come to find out, the pumps in their kit are really not the best fuel pumps for this application. It wasn't cheap, but I eventually decided to have the guys at Slee pull the tank and replace all the tubing/fittings/electrical connections and put in a better fuel pump (faster, independent relay, more robust, etc.). The fuel pump was an extra charge, but very much worth it. I'm much happier with the installation now. Again, not the cheapest install, but that's mostly because of all the components they replace. They do it right. One of the few negatives of the LRA tank is they don't have the best components sourced. Could be much better for the money you're spending for the tank, but Slee takes care of those issues.

I love my LRA tank. One thing I would like to point out is that the 12.5 is actually about 11.5 gallons. That is all that I can put into mine when I fill-up. I do not have a problem with this, but it is something that people should be aware of.
 
Can anyone in Colorado recommend a good shop in Colorado that can handle this install?
Although they generally do older Cruisers, you could talk to Redline in your neck of the woods. I suspect this is something they could handle.

hmm, reading that and the low quality of the provided hoses, fittings and fuel pump it seems like a very expensive proposition for 11.5 gallons (the tank I am looking at) Seems much easier and cheaper to carry around two 5 gallons fuels jugs.

Any info on the replacement pump Slee used? They could offer "upgrade kit".

Or Long Range America could include better quality components...

I wrestle with this too. 13.5gl using Rotopax (three 4.5gl plus mounts) costs about $400 but you have to do it. I’m looking at this like that leaves a nice chunk of change towards a real roof rack. The seamless functionality of the LRA 12.5 (11.5) is very attractive too.

It seems to me we should be able to just get by with stock capacity and the more efficient Aussie style diesel 👍🙂 It’s a tough call.
 
It is so frustrating when you spend good money on something and then spend more to build it the way it should have left the factory.

I seem to be the only person on this forum, and probably the only 200 owner in the US not interested in diesel anything. Two friends at work go on and on about diesel Land Cruisers. Guess I am missing the appeal. I have driven a lot of diesels when I lived overseas (trucks, van, car) and I just don't get it.
