Locked 1998 cruiser, good deal?

Doesn't look too bad, the dents don't look too big. Seat is an easy but pricey fix. It may have the towing package too. Wonder how the tires are? Does he have maintenance records? Also, all keys?

Hello,
That looks to be a great deal. The Rear Diff Lock will/would be left of the steering wheel where the buttons for the retractable side view mirrors and so forth are. If memory serves it is the furthest right button when so equipped.
You are correct that what the original owner is describing is the Center Diff Lock.
Cheers.
Jack

Sorry I'm a noob, if it has a center diff lock, does that mean it has to have a rear locker as well, or the rear locker is optional?

No, rear lock isn't necessarily there because of the presence of center diff lock. The rear diff lock is controlled by a knob that is to the left of the steering wheel, near the rear vent window controls.

I had him search for that knob, also sent him a picture of the knob, but does not seem like he have one :*(
But he seems to be able to do $9500 for the 1999 110k miles. That seems like a really sweet price tag, but too bad no rear locker.

I'm not sure which to go with at this point.
the first link a 1998 Land Cruiser $8400, rear locker and 128k miles, come with dents but it was a woman owner, I don't think she was good with maintenance.
The second link a 1999 Lexus LX possible $9500, 110k miles, confirmed no rear lockers.

Really want lockers bc I want this to be my family adventure vehicle. I was looking for a 1997 40th edition but it's hard to find and I read it's not as comfortable as the 100 series.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read that the lx was never offered with a rear locker. I recall Lexus fitting their models with rear LSD instead. If a rear locker is your goal, Toyota is where you'll find it if at all. And only on 98-99.

That is correct. In addition, post 2000 MY, no LC/LX's were offered with Rear Lockers Stateside. A good number of folks here have added ARB Air Lockers (Front & Rear) to excellent effect. Thus, I would personally look for the best maintained, non wrecked LC/LX that my budget would accommodate.

Oh wow, thanks for the info. I was on a wild goose chase the whole time looking for an LX with rear lockers.
The LC oem lockers have any problems?
I would love to have front and rear lockers, but that's another $2000 or more. Is there a market for used lockers that maybe cheaper? Also looking to possibly turbo charge it if I can find one for a decent price.
Most likely, it will be a DIY project.

I'm leaning towards the 100 series for comfort and giving up the solid front axel. From what I've been reading, most people said their 100 series take them to most places the 80 can go. I don't plan on hitting the rubicon trail or anything that exciting, although it's a possibility.
