Why do you think they put a lock on the gas filler door? Was is because if you parked in third world contries they would steal your gas? I guess I appreciate it now that gas went over $3.49 here in chicago.

Gas is still under $2/gal here.... I guess being in the middle of nowhere has it's perks sometimes.

Last time I lost my gas cap the guy behind the parts counter tried pretty hard to get me to buy a locking gas cap....

Never really thought about it until a couple weeks ago. Now I have to use the key to open it ever since the little black plastic clip on the hinge broke and fell off. Im sure its locked for theft reasons though.

Funny that you mentioned that. I was in the local Murray's buying some parts and the two people in front of me at the parts counter were looking for locking gas caps. I guess in some areas of our beautiful city there are some bad folks running around with jerry cans and siphons. As far as price, I REALLY hope you aren't paying $3.49 / gallon. Drive 5 miles out of the city limits and get it for about $2.30 /gallon.

even fj40's had a locking door and in the early 1960's there was a OEM locking gas cap option

I just found out today that there have been a slew of gas siphoning crimes here in my town too. That's crazy. I didn't think that this even happened in the past 30 years, but oh well. I'm glad once again that I drive a LC.
