Hey guys, I'm up here in Jasper, I have a bumper on its way and I want to build a nice bull guard for it. Does anyone know of a place in the Jasper/Birmingham area where I can buy some steel? Hopefully the steel isn't terribly expensive, I don't need that much anyway..

What do you need - Econo is where I usually shop but they don't really carry tube. they have a nice selection of plate drops. I have some extra tube here if you just need a little bit for a bull bar. do you have a tube bender?

I'm interested in about 8 sticks here in another month or two...

No, I dont have a bender but I'm not gonna need one.. Here is a picture I am modeling my bull bar off of.

Thats the bumper that is on its way to me right now :) I hope that this doesn't turn out to be just a big damage multiplier! I want to brace it pretty good on the back and bottom and I don't think that it will hurt too much, I mean if I hit something on the front, I'm gonna have to replace my grill anyway right?

what's the bumper, the picture above looks like a stock bumper with a grill guard, correct?

Yea the bumper is just an OEM front bumper and I'm building a bull guard to go on it, the bumper has been reinforced at the mounts and a winch plate has been added.

Hit me up with a PM on what you are looking for. Eric the same goes for you.

When needing steel, try some of the steel fab shops. Like those making large items like tanks for liquids. They typically sell it to scrap dealers for little or nothing and might let you pick through the pile. Selling at less than half of new steel cost.

Just a thought.

Yessir! I haven't forgot about you, I my pocket book keeps getting smaller so this project has been being put on hold for over a year.

H&E Steel in Opelika (next door to Dorn's) has always been friendly and good to me.

Great guys over there. I've also used Davis Machine out in Boringguard. But the last year both their prices have been astronomical, like higher than everyone else.
I still buy small projects from H&E, but there's no way I'll be able to afford a large amount from them these days.
