Hi all, so my overlanding and excursion goals are likely a bit different than what a lot of other folks on this board might be.

There is a 2006 GX470 at a local Toyota dealer. Vehicle looks clean in the 50+ photos they have online. It has 130,000 on the odometer, but for these vehicles that seems to be just getting warmed up.

The maintenance history looks good, but it looks like it definitely needs a timing belt service done. From the AutoCheck the TB service isn't noted anywhere so I'm guessing it's not done.

My goal is to use this vehcile as a daily driver for 3 years. At which point it will be paid off and then I'll feel comfortable running ot offroad.

So with the vehicle being a 2006 it has the older nav maps, no aux port.

For me an aux port is something I like to have since I have a portable hifi device that I run music through.

I've seen some ways to install new stereo interfaces that use the existing amp and speakers but they seem a little complex and I'm bad with electrical things.

Is the vehicle itself worth going through the extra hassle to get the music system up to where I'd like it?

I'm really staring at this vehicle in part also because right now I've got a Chevy Equinox as my daily, but it has let me down with mechanical issues pretty recently and I'm looking to get out of this vehicle and into something that will be more reliable.

Thanks for your help

My two cents, I’d rather have a reliable car without the sound options I like over an unreliable domestic brand. I just recently got out of a 2014 Dodge Ram that I owned less than a year with 28k. Drove it about 4k in that timeframe. I took my wife’s 2016 RAV4 for now and got her a new Sequoia. Never had an issue with the RAV4 even with the first two years spent in Middle East while stationed out there.

I couldn’t believe how many issues I had with the Ram. Luckily it was still within manufacturers warranty. Furthermore the company overall doesn’t stand by their brand and customer service sucks. Not that you’re buying new but I wouldn’t take a domestic vehicle for free and just sharing my experience.

I’d rather buy a used Toyota/Honda/Lexus etc over any brand new domestic vehicle on the market. I wouldn’t let the radio/sound issue stop you from making your decision.

Forgive my rant.

Agree with what Njn8ive says. If you are not capable of installing a Bluetooth or auxiliary interface yourself there are plenty of auto sound companies that can do that.

So here's a followup question for the 120 Series...

I have in my area at around the same price the aforementioned 2006 GX470 in the gold/savannah color that I'm not exactly thrilled about. But it was like sitting in a lazy boy and relaxing to drive.

There's also a 2007 4runner Sport with the V8. They both have 130k for miles. The Runner is a plain jane silver.

The GX is maybe a little more flexible because of the 3rd row....not a big 3rd row, but useful for our nieces and nephews or all piling into one car to go down to the lake or something. The Runner has the regular 5 seats. Both leather etc.

Which would be your preference?

I really prefer the gx but I don’t care for the gold. If you are in MA this one is pretty cheap and it has full records. 175k but 7 grand price tag.
