I was changing the oil today and found a broken wire leading to what looks like a sensor. I've been riding around with the wire broken for who knows how long.

Could anyone tell me what this sensor is responsible for?:

That's an engine oil pressure gauge. The gauge in your cluster will not work when one of the wire is off. ;)

Hmm. the oil pressure gauge sits around the 3/4 mark, Moves around every now and then.. It does seem to be reacting. It must be the ground wire that is broken so it's probably reacting but isn't referenced to ground properly?

I pulled the harness right off the sensor and repaired the broken braided wire and waterproofed the harness. The braided wire (gnd) pulls straight off the sensor. The sensor wire (black insulated) pulls off the sensor sideways (90 degrees). I suggest anyone owning an LJ78 take a look a this wiring harness on their truck. It's the wire that tucks around the Oil filter. A friend who also owns an LJ78 found the same wire broken on his truck. I think it's a common wear and tear item.

The sensor appears to work with the braided wire broken, but I believe it won't be correctly referenced to ground and will actually be off by a percentage in it's readings.
