Hey guys,

Hope y'all are doing well. What's everybody's thoughts on a 1.3 rad cap as opposed to the .9 factory rad cap for cooling? Is it worth this risk of leaks?

I would not recommend it. I've run higher pressure caps before, and they caused leaks in my heater core! It's a horrible job to fix.

If you're concerned about running too hot, look into doing the items I mentioned in your snorkel thread. If not towing, those things should easily keep your truck at safe temperature.

If that isn't good enough, install Evans Waterless Coolant. It doesn't boil until 380F (180C). I run the Evans because I tow with my LJ78 and it gets hot no matter what. But the Evans protects the cylinder head from cracking (so far). It keeps the temperatures more stable in the head, and stops localized boiling in the hot spots. I've red lined my temp gauge a number of times with no apparent issues (don't recommend it tho, haha).

Appreciate it brother! I won’t be doing any towing. I’ll stick to that list.
