I'd like to replace the rotors and pads on my LJ78. Digging through some old posts I found NAPA part numbers as follows:

LJ78 Napa brake part numbers:
Front pads: AE7298A or SD7298A (severe duty)
Front rotor: 85799
Rear pads: AE 7487-M (Mettalic)
Rear rotor: 86929
Rear calipers: 61447 + 61448

I called my local NAPA and they said these numbers do not show up in their system. Yet there are probably a half dozen guys in Canada who said they have bought the parts at NAPA. Is there something I'm missing here? I typed the numbers into their online database and came up with nothing there too.

Thanks for any help!

Why would a Cruiser as slow as the LJ78 need good brakes in the first place?:D

You're just living in denial of the fact that you miss your LJ78 dearly :p

Really though, my brakes are getting pretty low. I don't think they've been done in the 60,000kms that the vehicle has been in Canada. According to the EPC they share parts with similar years HZJ7* and PZJ7* cruisers. So at least my light cruiser has heavy cruiser brakes! :D Now if only it had a heavy cuiser engine... :crybaby:

sorry for you but i found a oil filter for 1hz engine at napa in montreal if thats cheer you up.

Interesting. I'll have to see if the filter is the same as the 2lte one. Have you got a part number?

Just phoned my local NAPA; all parts are in stock. :) I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

My advice:

We install lots, and lots of this stuff:

The Napa front rotors are [Chinese] Crap!! Use Mountain brand (Japanese) for MUCH better braking.

The Ceramic pads also SUCK! I would strongly suggest using Metal Masters (PBR) and you will have much better braking.

Use PBR pads for the rear, ditto, work way better than the standard Napa stuff.

Use Metallic pads where possible, they just plain perform way better than ceramics.

These are my opinions and experience through doing dozens and dozens of brake jobs on Land Cruisers. If you don't agree, fine, but we probably do more brakes specifically on Land Cruisers than anyone else in BC and top quality parts make an huge difference in longevity and braking performance.

Hey John, thanks a lot for sharing your experiences here. I'll definitely take that into consideration. I've had good experiences with PBR pads in the past as well (with Toyota sports cars).

I just called my local Napa (ontario) for rear pads and they are a no go on the part number above. I just dropped a pad so looking to get a set asap. Anyone have any fresh part numbers for the rear pads? The number for the rotors worked, just not the pads, of course. Thanks
