Some pics of my rubber flare an replacement mudflap install. These are the Pacer Performance 4" extruded rubber flares. I thought they came with a wire insert, but they didn't. turns out they dont need it really. Mudflaps from crappy tire.
Used alluminium rivets and a alluminium strip to sandwich the flares between the strip and the fenderwell. turned out pretty decent.

Looks good ! Have you got an intercooler under that hood? Lets take a peek......

I have one brand new and a box of piping. still tryin to figure how to shoe horn the sucker in there. might have to either make a different scoop for hood clearance or chop the suppot ribs out an put some flatbar in....i got a little fan for it as well and thinkin about a water mister for heat soak prevention. we ll see.

That is a sweet rig! Very clean! The new flares and mudflaps look good. Did you undercoat the vehicle? Do it yourself or have a body shop do it?

I found some surface rust on the rear around the bottom of the taillights and the left wheel rear wheel well. Also under the fronts of the rear wheel wells very small spots but did punch through in the exact same spots on either side. Amazing whats lurking under the running boards. only rust on the whole truck though...
Anyway so out with the wire wheel and rust primer and rock guarded the whole back end from the paint line down. did the inner rear fenders and the back of the frame as well. looks like its new. for now lol.
It has some scrapes and marks from the PO. i was thinkin i might rock guard the whole bottom half or at least a 1/3rd up the doors.... we ll see.....

Mine is exactly at the same point yours was at with the rust from the sounds of it. I've been meaning to do what you've done before my rust progresses much more. I think the previous owners to me drove it lots to a local ski hill on the island, so the truck saw salt on those highways for a few seasons. I'll have to get on sealing it up before winter sets in here.... (although in Victoria 'winter' is primarily rain, haha!).

There are a bunch of plugs along the bottom of the rocker panel that u should pay attention to. just before the wheel well especially. the reat most one is its own cavity and dirt and moisture get stuck there. id take em all out and blow it out with air and spray some rust inhibitor all through there every so often. my rearmost on either side yeilded rot about 2"x2". cut it out and primed it. gonna put some sacrificial diamond plate there to take care of the holes. also where your jack is and on the othere side where the rear washer bladder is, have a good look and feel down to the bottom as rust was starting there as well. i caught mine early. i also took All the rear bumper chrome and plastic off this seems to trap a LOT of crap in the rear end and very hard to get all cleaned out. i filled all the holes with stainless/rubber washers into the original plastic body screw capturers/plugs. looks way better i think.

Thanks for the pointers yotahead. It's nice to have someone on the forums here who has dealt with the same stuff I'm dealing with on my LJ78. Next think you know I'll be tossing the 2lte for a 3BT, haha.

No worries my man. Always glad to help. i hate seeing nice stuff go to sh!t because of coastal cancer. i get stressed if i see a paint chip turn orange lol
Cheers
