Hi,
I swapped the 2LTE with a 1KZT in my '92 LJ78. The work was done by an experienced garage. They kept the auto tranny from the old 2LTE with the new engine. The transmission had been repaired once, about 6 months ago.
The issues:
1. Now with the new engine, the transmission behaves like a CVT. The gear changes are indeacernible. At 3/4 throttle, the rpm goes up to 2500 and stays there till the final OD engages at around 70kph. Fuel consumption is very high.
2. While in OD at speeds above 70, the transmission is locked, mostly. But sometimes it lets go and starts behaving like a slipping clutch. In such a situation, if I have to speed up, the rpm will go up to 3200 (when it should be at 2200 normally) and then the veh will accelerate. Acceleration is still quite good, but rpm is very high and it gulps fuel like crazy. This issue happens occasionally, not all the time.
My mechanic has not been able to fix either of the issues. Any suggestions about what is wrong and how to fix it?
