hello guru,s
i have a 93 model prado with 2lte engine, automatic locking hubs on the front differential .the main confusion lies in the engagment of 4x4 well it works well but i am not sure whether i am doing it right.or not
first i press the hubs locking button then 4H (2 green clusters appears on the odo meter) now vehicle is in 4H.
now for 4L i do not dis engage or turn off 4H because if i do so the 4L will not engage so i keep both 4H and 4L at the same time
is it the right way i am doing so

The auto locking hubs must be kept on at all times for 4x4, they engage the wheels to the drive shaft.
The 4h(you mean H4!) Button (next auto locking switch) is for engaging the centre diff, which locks power 50/50 front back.
Putting it in 4L the green light should still comeon, you dont need to have H4on, but it wont hurt.
Its not recomended to drive on concrete or hard stuff with 4x4 engaged.
Its not recomended to drive with hubs locked up for to long on concrete, although I have never had problems.
Dont forget if you havean LSD diff in the back then use the right oil!

Regards

Martin

@cruiser70 thanks for the info.
but when i turn off the H4 and put the vehicle into L4 then the 4wD light turns off and the front wheels didt work:frown: so if i keep both H4 and L4 on at the same time it wont harm any of the system

There is no center diff on a LJ 78.

Push the button to lock the hubs check green light

Push the button on 4 HI check 4 HI light

Once you engage 4 LO with the mechanical lever it will deteat the 4 HI then release the 4 HI buton at will .

Do you know for sure that you have no power going to the front axle with just the 4 LO lever engaged?

If 4 LO only works with with the 4 HI button engaged the you have 2 LO and 4 LO Nice !

Either the vacum diaphram for the tranfer case engagement is on it way out or someone made it do that.
