little wire coming out of valve cover?

I'm installing the killer battery cables from Urban (david dearborn)...and noticed a wire in not-so-good shape coming out of the back of the valve cover, near the firewall. It looks to be green or blue and has a spade on the end connected to a large nut/bolt lookin' thing...what is it, and what does it do?

hmmmm....could be the cure for my low vltge gremlin?

Hmmmm....in replacing the cables, I discovered there was no ground wire attached from the heater valve area to the engine, and now this...I think I'm going to cure this one!

just to confirm - it's probably no bigger than 10guage, but probably more like 12 - we're talking about the same one, right?

Does the "bolt thingy" screw into the intake manifold, in the rear, towards the firewall?
 
oooo....good question...

I'll have to take a closer look tonight...with the 33's and being all of 5'7" sometimes it's tough to see everything. ;-)

I do know it is on that side of the motor, right by the firewall, and could very well be where you describe. But I could have sworn it was right on top of the valve cover.

of course, now, I'm second guessing - I'll check it out tonight...

What's your thought with that location? different wire from one that 'could' be on the valve cover??

You mean..that little wire...thingie, whachamahoosie that's on the engine doesn't help?? :-)

What you describe sounds closest so far...It looks like it could be a temp sending unit.

Just re-read your post, and I'm thinking it's the temp sender wire. There is a ground wire that goes from the firewall to the block which is what I described, but it sounds more like a sender wire. I'll take a look tonight.
 
there is no wire that comes out of the valve cover........or at least there should not be
 
Right, I've had mine off several times in the last week, and there's no wire attached to it. I think the wire you're talking about is nearby, bolted to the head next to the valve cover. Don't know what it is though.
 
uh, yeah next to it..

Yup...it's on the top there, next to the valve cover. sorry for the that, I couldn't remember without lookin' at it...

and it's the temp sending unit...
