Lights on back tailgate?

opened the tailgate last night and noticed two lights that are not on. When opening the top of the tailgate I see two lights precariously places under the hitch. Are these lights or reflectors?

these are lights to illuminate your license plate when the hatch is closed.

holy smokes - I may be getting more senile as the years pass on. Thanks!! Just got back from hockey practice last night for my kiddos and thought to myself as I was putting the sticks and bags in the car - why aren't these lights on? They're perfect for illuminating the bags/rear of the car...
